What Scrykeeper's numbers mean.
Scrykeeper combines Royal Road metadata, an observed reader graph, author identity, and commercial publishing mappings. These layers have different coverage and refresh schedules. This page describes the current dataset and its limitations.

“Observed readers” does not mean total readers
Scrykeeper's reader graph is built from sampled public Royal Road favourite relationships. If Scrykeeper says a story has 40 observed readers, that means 40 distinct readers in the current Scrykeeper sample were connected to that story.
Shared-reader percentages and author audience overlaps are also calculated within this observed graph, not across the complete readership of Royal Road.
Known identity, not complete bibliography
Scrykeeper anchors Royal Road authors using stable Royal Road profile identities. Commercial aliases are connected only when accepted evidence supports the relationship.
A Scrykeeper author page therefore shows known stories and known commercial works in the current dataset. It should not be interpreted as a definitive list of everything that author has ever written or published.
“No known publication” is intentionally cautious
When Scrykeeper shows No known publication, it means there is currently no accepted commercial mapping in Scrykeeper for that Royal Road story.
Interpret the data in context
- Reader Graph
- Observed readers are derived from Scrykeeper's sampled public Royal Road favourite relationships. They do not represent total readership and should not be interpreted as platform-wide reader counts.
- Reader Overlap
- Shared-reader and audience-overlap metrics describe overlap inside Scrykeeper's observed reader sample, not the complete audiences of either story or author.
- Author Coverage
- Author identities and known works are limited to records Scrykeeper has resolved. An author profile should not be interpreted as a complete bibliography.
- Commercial Coverage
- Commercial publishing coverage is incomplete. No known commercial mapping means Scrykeeper currently has no accepted mapping; it does not establish that a work is unpublished.
- Catalogue Coverage
- Scrykeeper does not guarantee complete coverage of Royal Road stories, historical works, authors, books, editions, or other publishing platforms.
- Freshness
- Different source layers refresh independently. Freshness timestamps describe the latest represented observation or build for that source and do not imply that every record was refreshed at that exact time.
- Interpretation
- Scrykeeper metrics describe the current observed dataset. They should not be treated as population estimates unless explicitly labelled as such.
